Christina, can you tell us about yourself like you were on a first date!
Christina: “I am a big science nerd, I started a publication and a platform FemEvolve in 2018. Aside from that, I do a lot of research on epilepsy and stroke. I am obsessed with my dog and going for runs and anything to do with wellness.”
Christina, you aren’t new to the House of Anesi community at all. In fact, for our listeners benefit, I should explain.
House of Anesi’s first event in Toronto sparked the inspiration for this podcast and Christina was a beloved participant on the panel. Christina, can you share some of the topics you touched upon at the event for those listeners who missed attending.
Christina: “The importance of doing mammograms to detect breast cancer at early stages, and risk factors for breast cancer. I spoke also about personal experience about self-esteem and confidence surrounding breasts, with my past relationships and how it affected my self-image, healthy lifestyle and about endometriosis.”
And can you explain what endometriosis is for those listeners who haven’t heard the term before?
Christina: “Endometriosis is more common than you think, it impacts 1 in 10 women worldwide. A lot of us are walking around not even knowing we have it, mainly due to late diagnosis. With endometriosis tissue similar to the lining of the uterus deposits and grow in different areas of the body such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, rectum, bowel and in rare cases it can grow in the lungs, eyes and brain.
For me, it had impacted my kidneys function substantially. It can cause severe pain that can be worse than childbirth, heavy bleeding during your cycle, mood swings, chronic fatigue, weak immune system, digestive issues, difficulty using the bathroom and pain during sex.”
