How often do you feel as though there are a million things to do and not enough time? Those days where you just look at the bra hanging on your door knob and think “I’ll eventually get around to washing you”. Taking control of your life is a conscious decision you need to make, and the best way to get started on achieving that is by organizing your days.
The Benefits Of Being Organized
Being organized is not a state of being, it is a habit. Taking action and sorting out the things you have to do will make you feel more in control of your week (and life). Preparing eliminates the anxiety that comes with doing things last minute. Having a plan is having ease of mind, though you should be ready for those unexpected life changes every now and then. Things will not always go according to plan, but having a set of goals for the week means that you can do things more efficiently, including your “me time”.
How To Get There
Take an hour once a week to plan what you want to achieve. By doing this, downtime will find a way to incorporate itself into your well organized day. Make a list of the things you need to do and write them down, so that you can tick away each accomplishment at a time. Saying that you’ll remember instead of writing them down just adds stress to an already stressful day. Looking at your to do list will feel much better than constantly being in a state of forgetfulness!
Learn To Say No
Don’t be shy about saying no. Prioritize YOUR plans above all others. We often feel guilty saying no, or experience the elusive FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Resting and re-fueling play a massive part in your mental state during the week so make sure you're putting them high on your list of priorities.
Focus on the tasks that you set out to do and do them! Sometimes you just need to cut out the noise out and just concentrate. Don’t let small miscellaneous tasks distract you from reaching your overall end goal, it will only lead to unnecessary stress. Also, take a break from all your favourite procrastination habits. If social media is a distraction turn off those notifications and get to work.
Don’t Be Impulsive
Sometimes it’s so easy to say ‘yes’ without even thinking about it. But don’t do it! Step back and take five minutes to think about what you are committing to and if it will propel you towards your end goal. If it doesn’t then move on, learning to prioritize is an ability you build over time.
As well, breaking bad habits and making good ones are not easy feats, but now is the best time to reconsider your current time management and how to make better use of it.
So this week, sit down and plan for the upcoming week. For instance, when was the last time you washed your bra? If it’s been a while, schedule some time to get it done. In fact, make a to-do list, write down everything you want to get done and schedule them. Don’t forget your overall well being is important so schedule time for whatever feels right for you.
I really need to make time to wash mine! xD
